The Profession
The prosthetic and orthotic profession is made up of clinical and technical health professionals that are uniquely trained. Clinical professionals are certified in orthotics, prosthetics or both and technicians are registered in orthotics, prosthetics or both. Member Benefits
OPC is dedicated to delivering value to all categories of membership. There are four member categories for OPC: Certified Members, Registered Technicians, Associate Members and Students. Opportunities available to OPC members are dependent on your membership category and may include;

Certified Orthotists & ProsthetistsCertified Orthotists CO(c) and Certified Prosthetists CP(c) are healthcare professionals that are specifically educated and clinically trained to manage comprehensive orthotic and/or prosthetic patient care. This includes patient
assessment, formulation of the treatment plan, implementation of the treatment plan, follow-up and sound practice management.
Registered Orthotic & Prosthetic TechniciansRegistered Technicians in Orthotics RTO(c) and Registered Technicians in Prosthetics (RTP(c) fabricate, repair and maintain orthoses and/or prostheses. The Registered Technician is proficient with current fabricating techniques,
familiar with the properties of a variety of materials and skilled in the use of appropriate equipment.
ResidentsResidents work under the close clinical supervision of an OPC Certified practitioner in good standing and in the appropriate discipline; an orthotic or prosthetic resident may perform clinical assessment and patient management
tasks within their registered discipline, as well as carry out practice management and technical implementation activities and services.
InternsInterns are bound by the same rules and regulations as Registered Technicians but perform their duties under the close supervision of an OPC Registered or Certified practitioner in good standing and in the appropriate discipline.
StudentsStudents of accredited programs can receive a free membership with OPC while they are in school. This currently only applies to students of George Brown College and BCIT’s Orthotics and Prosthetics Programs.
AssociateAssociate members are affiliates and friends (allied health, vendors, etc.) of the O&P profession in Canada. They receive many of the same benefits and discounts to OPC offerings, with some limitations on access to the online
member portal. This is an affordable way to join a special community.
OPC is the professional association and credentialing body for Certified and Registered Orthotics & Prosthetics professionals in Canada.
