Internship Program
The OPC Internship Program is a required step in the process to achieve the status of Registered Technician in orthotics or prosthetics. The Internship is completed under the supervision of a Certified or Registered Practitioner in good standing with the Corporation and may take place in a private or public facility. The 3450-hour (Method I) or the 6900-hour (Method II) must be performed in the appropriate discipline while employed as an Intern in an orthotic or prosthetic facility. Continued learning Fees for application to the Internship Program and annual Internship dues are outlined in the Internship Program Fee Schedule found here. Registration Written and Practical examination fees are listed on the Examinations page of the OPC website.
Interns must pay the annual membership fees in order to remain in the Internship program and remain in good standing with the corporation.
This opportunity is available to interns to gain exposure to other areas of expertise not seen at their current place of employment. The intern must complete the Off-site Internship Application Form prior to attending the facility in order for the experience to be counted toward their hours. If there will be a change in your Supervisor or facility, you will need to fill out and submit an Internship Change Form here (preferred), or you can download the fillable PDF here. You will need to fill out and submit an Off-Site Internship Application if you wish to apply for offsite Internship.

Yes, both Written and Practical exam application forms can be found on the Examinations page of the OPC website. In order to register for Written and Practical Examinations, applicants must fill out the appropriate registration form and pay both the application fee and exam fee prior to the registration deadline.
Yes, completing an MSc. can be applied for some Internship credit hours. See the policy in section 11.0 of the Internship Handbook for more information. Please consult the Residency Program FAQs document found here.
Interns are Associate Members of OPC and must adhere to all conditions for membership, including the payment of annual fees, and must conduct themselves in accordance with the OPC Canons of Ethical Conduct Please click here to send us an email with any questions.
