Residency Program

The OPC Residency Program is a required stage of post-graduate experience to achieve the ability to become certified in orthotics or prosthetics. The Residency is completed under the supervision of a Certified Practitioner in good standing with the Corporation and may take place in a private or public facility. The 3450-hour Residency must be performed in the appropriate discipline while employed as a Resident in an orthotic or prosthetic facility. Hours must be recorded and approved in the manner prescribed by OPC.

Residents are Associate Members of OPC and must adhere to all conditions for membership, including the payment of annual fees, and must conduct themselves in accordance with the OPC Canons of Ethical Conduct.

Internship Program

The OPC Internship Program is a required step in the process to achieve the status of Registered Technician in orthotics or prosthetics. The Internship is completed under the supervision of a Certified or Registered Practitioner in good standing with the Corporation and may take place in a private or public facility. The 3450-hour (Method I) or the 6900-hour (Method II) must be performed in the appropriate discipline while employed as an Intern in an orthotic or prosthetic facility. Hours must be recorded and approved in the manner prescribed by OPC.

Interns are Associate Members of OPC and must adhere to all conditions for membership, including the payment of annual fees, and must conduct themselves in accordance with the OPC Canons of Ethical Conduct.

Resident and Intern Liaison

The Resident and Intern Liaison role is to provide confidential guidance and support to help Residents and Interns address any issues that may arise during their Residency or Internship.
