OAPO Tech Day: December 10, 2019
“Proven fabrication techniques: Thermoforming over rigid foam positive models” by: Alex Brett, R.T.P.O. (c)
*This presentation will discuss processes for fabricating over foam models. Topics include our successes/challenges/tips + tricks.
“Talking torque” by: Jarrod Eccles, R.T.O. (c)
*This presentation is about the importance of proper torque and being able to quantify that components are set to actual manufacturers specs. It will also give some insight into why the torque bits break and which ones are the best bank for the buck.
“Fabrication of a 40 durometer urethane partial foot” by: Alex Brett, R.T.P.O.(c)
*This is a detailed presentation on the fabrication of custom urethane partial feet. Attendees will learn about silicones, urethanes, mold making, and some unique applications within our industry.
“Velcro, not all are created equal” by: Jarrod Eccles, R.T.O.(c)
*In this presentation you will learn how Hook and Loop fasteners are created, how they are supposed to work, and why they are not all created equal.
“Fabrication of a custom silicone distal end pad” by: Alex Brett, R.T.P.O.(c)
*This is a step by step guide to fabricating a custom silicone distal end pad, with a PETG clamshell mold. This process can be used to create spot pads, end caps, or even a full silicone liner!
“Fabrication of a conventional KAFO” by: Jarrod Eccles, R.T.O.(c)
*It may not seem as relevant as it was 15 or 20 years ago but knowing how to fabricate a conventional KAFO is an art that shouldn’t be lost. You will get a step by step procedure that will get you through all steps and ultimately add to your skills as a tech!
“Best practices for transfer paper application” by: Alex Brett, R.T.P.O.(c)

“The basics of metal finishing” by: Alex Brett, R.T.P.O.(c)
*From raw goods to a brace that will make you look twice. This presentation discusses many finishes we see daily, and how to assure our modifications will stand the test of time, while looking great.
“Limbwrap – interactive demo” by: Jarrod Eccles, R.T.O.(c)
*In this interactive demo, Jarrod will show you how to apply Limbwrap to an orthotic or prosthetic device. Attendees will later have the opportunity to experiment with limbwrap on a device of their choosing. There will be a 12-minute video as part of the presentation.
3:30 PM – 4:15 PM – “Sharing fabrication tips and tricks, an open discussion”
