P&O Women's Summit

What: This is a grassroots event that will examine gender equality in P&O in Canada with a professional, scholarly approach.  This event will combine theory with practical application.  A panelist discussion will take place in the morning, featuring gender, disability, and health studies Professor Michael Orsini, as well as 2-3 accomplished women from diverse areas of P&O in Canada.  The afternoon will be structured as workshop-style groups, with the goal of applying theory discussed in the morning to develop ideas for improving gender equality in our field.  Several opportunities for networking and socializing will be available throughout the day.

Who: All females and femme folk who work in P&O are welcome to attend, including students. Qualified child-care providers will be available for free on-site.

When: Sunday, August 12, 2018 (the day after the OPC National Conference in Ottawa ends)

Where: 1414 Burnstown Rd, White Lake, ON.  It will be held under an event tent in the beautiful backyard of Jenna Holz's parents' house.  It is approximately one hour by car from Ottawa, ON.

Why: Gender has never been formally examined in P&O in Canada.  There may be structures, procedures, and practices that need to be updated in order to make our field as accessible, as fair, and as vibrant as possible.  This is an opportunity to learn more about how gender bias affects our career pathways and the experiences of our patients.  It also gives you the opportunity to make our field a better place for those who come after us.

MCEs: This event has been approved for 4 MCEs.
