Ortoped - Unique management of Osteoarthritic Knee

Presentation Title: Unique management of Osteoarthritic Knee utilizing scanning technology and additive

Speaker: Simon Beals

Date: Thursday, March 22, 2018

Practitioners will identify a new and innovative method for treating and offloading the osteoarthritic knee. Utilizing a structured light scanner and incorporating a 3D modelization process and additive manufacturing to create a truly bespoke knee orthoses, we will address the ability to stop migration, improve biomechanical gait kinematics and improve patient compliance.

They will gain an understanding of the normal biomechanical pathways of the knee and how these change in patients suffering from osteoarthritis. The challenges of how conventional OA knee bracing manages and offloads an affected joint will be compared to an asymmetrical joint system that follows the triplanar motion of the knee. Participants will learn how to assess and select options for optimizing functional outcomes and will become proficient at utilizing a scanner to capture knee shape.
